Liaision Program

The Oaxaca Learning Center works with the Oaxaca Lending Library and the Casa de la Mujer Rosario Castellanos to provide a number of mutually supportive services.

For example, the Lending Library’s Foundation offers a conduit for contributions to the Learning Center that meet the criteria for tax-deductible charity according to the U.S. tax code. And from time to time, the Learning Center has placed interns in the Library, where they can learn valuable new skills while practicing their English. The Oaxaca Lending Library is also a rich resource for Center students who often have never had the opportunity to spend time in an actual library.

A number of the Learning Center’s tutors were scholarship students from the Casa de la Mujer and were referred by them. The Casa de la Mujer is dedicated to defending women’s rights, fighting domestic abuse and expanding opportunities for women in Oaxaca.

Casa de la Mujer has also provided the Learning Center with valuable assistance in program development and grant writing, helping the Center to gain a grant from the Oaxaca state government’s Secretaria de Desarrollo Social (Ministry of Social Development) to initially fund the satellite Learning Center in Lomas de San Jacinto.
