Friends of the Oaxaca Learning Center connects donors, volunteers, and community partners with opportunities that help young people in Oaxaca build brighter futures.
Who We Are
FOLC exists to sustain and strengthen the work of the Oaxaca Learning Center.
Friends of the Oaxaca Learning Center is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization that raises funds, coordinates volunteers, and builds community support for the Oaxaca Learning Center in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Through donor support, FOLC helps fund scholarships, academic programs, staff stipends, technology, facilities, and student support services.
Our Story
From a garden in Oaxaca to a thriving educational community.
Gary Titus begins tutoring students
Gary Titus, a retired social worker and community organizer from San Francisco, begins tutoring students in Oaxaca.
Gary and Jaasiel develop the vision
Gary Titus and Jaasiel Quero begin developing an educational model combining tutoring, mentoring, and personal development.
The Center becomes formally established
The Oaxaca Learning Center develops its formal nonprofit structure and expands its support for students.
FOLC provides essential support
FOLC now provides approximately 60% of the funding that sustains the Center’s operations and growth.
Gary Titus Legacy
A legacy that continues to change lives.
Gary Titus believed that every young person deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and realize their full potential.
What began with tutoring sessions grew into a thriving educational community serving hundreds of students each year.

Donor support has helped strengthen the physical spaces where students receive tutoring, access technology, participate in workshops, and build community.
Volunteers
Volunteers are part of the FOLC story.
FOLC coordinates volunteers who support students through language exchanges, tutoring, classroom assistance, workshops, mentoring, and professional skills.
Some volunteers also support FOLC through fundraising, event development, communications, graphic design, and strategic projects.

Financial Stewardship
Responsible stewardship guides our work.
FOLC is led by a volunteer board and keeps administrative costs intentionally low. Funds raised help support scholarships, educational programs, staff stipends, technology, facilities, and student services at the Oaxaca Learning Center.
